2009 Beaux Frères, Upper Terrace Pinot Noir

2009 Upper Terrace Pinot Noir 750mL
2009 Upper Terrace Pinot Noir 750mL

Tasting Notes:

Medium ruby hued, this wine exhibits notes of red currants sandy, loamy undertones. Medium bodied, spicebox, Christmas fruitcake and herbs. There is a depth and richness that we normally find in this vineyard planted to Dijon clones.

This vintage shows a different side of this vineyard- one of elegance and light – the fruit profile is more one of red fruit than the normal dark fruit that we expect. Still complex and slow to reveal itself as this cuvée always is we are still enjoying watching this wine unwind and open up. Right now it is simply giving us hints of what is to come.

Maturity:

This should be a wine to enjoy over the next 8+ years.

Vineyard Info:

This vineyard lies on a property that we purchased in 1997 expressly to have access to this site. After clearing and preparing the soil we planted this steep south facing 10 acre vineyard to Dijon clones 113, 114, 115, 667 and 777 grafted to Phylloxera-resistant rootstock. This site is similar to our Beaux Frères Vineyard in elevation and its sedimentary soils. It is surrounded on all sides by a forest of graceful fir trees. Our first vintage of Upper Terrace was 2002. This site benefits from the same sustainable farming practiced on the Beaux Frères Vineyard.
